I have noticed that a version or so back Word creates a folder that keeps a backup of each document that has the same name as the document. It started occurring as soon as I updated to to Word 16.10 for mac. I have the same problem, Save does not work. Word 2016 doesn't have a true autosave function, as in save file every x minutes (I can see some negatives to this anyways) but it does save files you didn't save before closing if you tell it to.It does-for tens, hundreds, thousands of people, Microsoft Word is an every day event. Also if you have Apple’s Time Machine running on your compute you can recover old versions of Word documents that you have saved over even if Microsoft Word cannot recover them. If Microsoft Word crashed you may be able to recover your document. IF you are trying to get back an old file, Microsoft Word does have a feature called auto-recovery. ![]() ![]() But there are some ways to mimic this functionality using a scripting program like Keyboard Maestro. This is a deal breaker if you are an OS X user wanting to use Word. Microsoft Word for OS X does not have auto save.
